sam amidon & company

I wanted to post more about Sam Amidon, who released his All is Well album this past February on the Bedroom Community label. (see his song "Saro" in earlier post). Amidon is so striking-- deceptively simple, and at once painful, wonderful, honest, fragile-- with a bit of psychotic adolescence mixed in. he comes from an incredibly musical family, which can sometimes be a blessing or a curse or both. anyways, he's amazing! smart and intimately charming. MORE about him in this London Sunday Times article. he's also a pretty talented, albeit quirky, amateur dancer. let's just say, i'm smitten.

Sam calls this "eloper"

"roving"

Amidon's partner in crime on All is Well, Nico Muhly, is a composer himself and adds a freshness with his clever orchestrations (for example he puts paper and other objects on the piano strings a la Cage to spice up the sound). Nico has worked with the likes of Bjork and Philip Glass and has been commissioned by Carnegie Hall.

And in other news, EXCITEMENT for David Lang winning a Pulitzer for his piece Little Match Girl! (based on the Hans Christian Anderson classic) Carnegie Hall is streaming it HERE if you want a listen.
